In this video you will learn a little bit about how Mental Ray's Final Gather feature works, by creating a sky dome and using the ambient color of a material to work as the main source of light in your scene. Using this type of dome light is a quick and easy way to get some overall illumination in a render, and will allow you to display your models in a much nicer way than with the default light set in Maya.
To get some crisp edged shadows and boost specular highlights we add one spot light to the scene, so you will also learn how to aim lights in Maya and render blurred shadows for a more realistic result.
