Hi,

This might not sound too good as it may be a bit of a rant.

I had modelled an alien character, and I am starting to layout the head.

I initially though to map the half of the head as I had made half and am going to duplicate it.

Then I tried to map th whole head.

The results are below with half of the head, the full head and what the head looks like.

The nose and forehead has ridges on it.

Please advise as to what you think I should do or use.

Ha ha - that is one crazy looking alien - reminds me a bit of a parrot!

I think how you would lay out the head would just depend on whether you wanted the texture to be repeated on the opposite side (if you just layout half) or if you wanted to paint irregular details if you layout the whole head. I would go with the latter just so your alien is a bit more interesting, but either way will work fine.

Also, not sure if you already know this, but when you lay out the UVs, you need to make sure that you get them all within that top right hand square as that will be the area that maya takes the UV snapshot from.

Thanks a lot for the advise.

I was thinking of using the whole head, but it was that the ridges are ot flattened, and I thought that this would be a problem.
