Maya 2008

Well another update, doent really say much about it though...

Also theres a press release saying that Autodesk are taking over the makers of mudbox, be cool to see that as a plug in or std for unlimited, doubt it though.

Looks like they are changing the format of Maya version numbers into the Microsoft style progam, year style. Yet another attempt by Autodesk to corrupt our beloved 3d app.

And they are adding direct 3d features which I think is diminishes Maya's former dedication to abosulte quality.

Looks really cool, but why only a 32-bit version for Mac (PPC)? Didn’t 8.5 support 64-bit?

Jr.Who > 'Looks really cool, but why only a 32-bit version for Mac (PPC)? Didn’t 8.5 support 64-bit?'

I'm guessing that the G5 is now obsolete so they don't bother releasing a dedicated version for it.

But the only PPC that runs Maya is the G5. Most G5s were 64-bit.

They've done the same with all there applications, I really doubt that simple version name change is corruping it, thats being frankly daft.

Think i'm going to reserve judgement on it as the press release says very little, I wanted to see Nucleus over dynamics, maybe some decent poly painting above and beyond what maya's already got, maybe pro boolians, more modeling tools, faster playback.

Really? I thought Maya supported Macs since 3.5, which if Wikipedia is right, came out in October 2001, which is about an entire year before IBM announced the 970. Could I be wrong on this?

I’m talking about the latest version. ;)

sounds quite interesting and can only really be good if they are adding in new features etc. I wonder if the interface will be changing a bit more this version?

gster123 09-08-2007 03:17 AM

Just looked on Autodesks site about whats changing in Maya 2008, the Mental Ray Core seems to be a great enhancement, IPR, all particles supported (even hardware ones). Also the skinning improvements looks goodm, as well asthe imporvements to the modeling set (which seems more of a glitch fix with regards to bevels and boolians, hey maybe there will be no more "Ive used a boolian and my objects Dissappeared" therads????)

Also the PLE is available to download

Well, now I’m confused. Why would they have the PLE if the real thing hasn’t come out yet?

gster123 09-08-2007 10:15 AM
