July/August - norm - T1ckl35
hmm, mighty interesting this one if you take the first thing that comes up - a bit like taking a freelance job that you're unsure how it'll end up ;)
I got: supporting setting Here is the current brain dump I've come up with tonight supporting: To act in a secondary or subordinate role to (a leading performer). bridge supports, building foundations, hands, space (vacuum), water, ocean, tree roots, chair, water tanks supports, gas tower, bridge, bungie rope, pilots seat, oil rig, tanker, tug, troops (behind a tank), military communication lines, pillar, vegetation, tree, legs, insects (worker ants, drone bees), horse setting: To become fixed; harden. See Synonyms at coagulate. To become permanent. scene, environment, area, picture, composition, sun, button, control, computer-controlled For some reason I keep getting the idea of an epic sweeping scene, something like the scene after the d-day landings in saving private ryan where you see all the support craft, vehicles and men who are bringing all the equipment onto land ready to support the next push onwards. I'm playing with timescales at the minute too - it could be a medieval siege from a distance looking through the support tents etc, or maybe a futuristic scene where the second in command is overseeing the assembly of space ships ready for an attack the following day.... More ideas to come ;) Si |
nicely done! That's exactly what I intended with really concepting out ideas that the crazy phrase could possibly mean. :)

cheers mike :)
I always like looking at words both literally and not, as people can take a word for granted without really breaking it apart. Here are a couple of quick concepts on the train (using just a mouse!) this morning. The first is just an evening sun setting behind a bridge but it leads me onto the second which could be the basis for the epic style scene I mentioned before. It could have a cityscape at the left in the distance, a little misty of polluted?, where the road/rail/transport bridge leads to. The foreground could show the detail in the bridge supports (maybe a few lights twinkling?) as the sun is setting. Maybe a couple of bridge workers half way up one of the supports working away to show the epic size of the bridge supports could give some meaning/focus? Anyways, more to come ;) http://www.flash-fx.net/3D/images/su...ing/bridge.jpg http://www.flash-fx.net/3D/images/su...ity_bridge.jpg |
Really nice sketches
Especially with a mouse only. Hope to see more progress soon. |
thanks kiveun, they are still just quick concepts at the minute so will hopefully look a lot better when developed ;)
|
I got the trusty wacom out for the first time in ages and have quickly run over one of the ideas to see if its feasible - no detail yet, its just a play with colours and composition ;)
I've also been looking at loads of bridges to see what type would be suitable, there are loads of types out there! http://www.flash-fx.net/3D/images/su...ty_bridge2.jpg |
Nice concepts man, should be good, looking forward to it.
|
yeah - good concepts t1ck - I especially like the last one - the contrast of the skyscrapers and the bridge supports is working really well at the moment. I might try to get some of the red of the sky reflected in the sea - i think that will help bring out the foreground.
|
Thanks guys :) yep I agree with the red colour leaking into the sea arran.
I decided to run a rough draft of some basic 3D shapes to see if the concept will work - no point doing loads yet and not being happy with it ;) I've been playing with the camera settings too but this might be a little too 'fisheye'. The second picture is just a zoom out so you can see the scale things might be. http://www.flash-fx.net/3D/images/su...ugh_layout.jpg http://www.flash-fx.net/3D/images/su...ut_zoomout.jpg |
Cool!

those beers look good today arran
Had another few ideas and had to quickly concept this one before I forgot it. It's atlas (supporting) holding the world in front of the sun (setting). The first is an eclipse scene which I quite like because of the tone. It reminded me a little of the rko pictures telegraph in the old black and white films and would be cool to play about with lighting for. The second is a variant of a sunset quickly blocked in for a different feel. More ideas to come... http://www.flash-fx.net/3D/images/su.../concept2a.jpg http://www.flash-fx.net/3D/images/su.../concept2b.jpg |
I love both, the bridge and the atlas concept. For the Atlas one I prefer the dark one.
 One beer for me too Kevin |
thanks kiveun, I agree with you on the dark one, lets all get beers in
here's another very quick idea I had on the train, not finalised but the idea is that the person hanging is being held/supported by someone on the cliff top. Either that or they have climbing gear on and the rope is holding them up. I'm still preferring the dark atlas out of all of them at the minute... http://www.flash-fx.net/3D/images/su...f_hanging1.jpg |
Looking cool. I prefer the darker one as well.
|
I don't know - to be honest I think I prefer your first idea. For me, it just seems to have the most potential. I really like the highway and I am already envisaging some sort of flying vehicle to fill that nice big sky.
I like the atlas idea - it reminds me of the statue outside the Rockefeller Center in New York - I just feel that at the moment the composition is a little too central - it might be nice to have more of three quarter shot incorporating a bit more of the landscape around him. Sorry for raining on the parade T1ck. I am sure whatever you decide to do will be very cool. ;) |
