PERFORMANCE

Ok guys here's an idea for a Forum dedicated to Performance of our working machines!! I'll explain: it could be a forum where every new thread has a scene file attached for every one to download it and render, then every m8 could post the results like: the render time, resolution, kind of cpu, ram, motherboard, graphic card... you know what i mean:D! This way we all could compare the results and see what's wrong with the similar machines with diferent render times, or just se what the best component to buy to get a better performence!! What do you think guys?

I'm curious about it. My computer is so slow, I'd like to see what the norm might be. And what everyone is using.

yeah, a hardware forum :) cos the technial forum is for maya technical problems, so a hardware would be good :) or do we already have a hardware forum? :S

dannyngan 04-03-2003 11:48 PM

It seems that the Technical Issues forum would suit this just fine. I'd imagine that technical issues with Maya would include both hardware and software. :)

But this one would suit just performance issues and just for that but is only an idea:D

I'm in if you tell me what to do exactly, but who will provide such a scene?

englar 05-03-2003 12:44 AM

We render the scenes provided by i dont know who yet:D, and post the results such as the rendering time, resolution used (ex:1600x1200) and computer components (graphic card, ram, ddr, cpu, main board...) for us to compare the results! I think it would be interesting to know if our machines are working fine compared to similar ones and what's the best comfiguration for the already instaled components with new ones that we might buy!

I think its a very useful and interesting idea englar - well devised. But i agree with danny - surely u could just start a thread in the technical forum? I guess it all boils down to how much continual interest there would be in performance related tests. Im not too sure it'd warrant its own forum just yet, if at all. Great idea tho m8!

englar 05-03-2003 01:50 AM

i think that simply make threads in another forum could be confusing cause in a "performance forum" every thread would be dedicated to an especific file and resulting replys! like i said is just an idea :D

I ment, if you would explain what I had to do in the render globals, because I haven't learned much about that yet.

englar 05-03-2003 03:11 PM

you would simply adjust the resolution, the anti-alising quality and maybe the raytrace parameters!

d24e 07-03-2003 11:21 AM

okay, sounds simple enough, bring on the files:)

the sean file can contain the resilution, render globals and all cant it ?? all you would do is load the file and hit render..

I think the main thing would be to have a small but well rounded sean.

id like to see some mac - pc comparasons with rendertimes! somebody supply a scene file already! :)

englar 02-04-2003 02:14 AM

I've been too busy in work, so i haven't worked on a scene for the tests, i hope you can give a hand guys! sorry:(
