HELP!!! What is up with this TEXTURE???

Ok. I have an object that is ready to me texture mapped. The existing material is a LAMBERT. I go in to make a 2D Texture under loading image FROM FILE and the whole thing goes to hell. More than half the Geometry goes transparent and the rest is hosed with UV everywhere. What gives?

You need to UV Map it.
