Where do you start?

...and why?

Ultragames 01-11-2003 07:31 AM

Because when you click on the frame furthest to the left, its number one.

Vampus 01-11-2003 07:35 AM

So if I sneak into you're house and change you'r starting frame to -10 all you're projects would start at -10? :)

I start at 0, because that's common sense number system. When you're at frame 120, you know you have 120 frames, not 119.

niobi xd 01-11-2003 08:28 AM

i believe i start at 0...for the same reason Vampus does..

Ultragames 01-11-2003 08:44 AM

if you sneak into my house, ill kick your ass. In case im not there, good luck hacking into my system. :D ;) But yes, i get your point.

dragonfx 01-11-2003 09:29 AM

In the hypotetical case i were to sneak into you house youll find a missing HDD :D and then it will be no prob lookng whatever you have in it...
The starting frame: It depends, you might want to start rendering on frame 20 so that all cloth is settled...

ragecgi 01-11-2003 03:15 PM

Same reason as Vampus, and you can set your animation prefs so that when you click on the left-most frame it is zero:)

mtmckinley 01-11-2003 05:05 PM

My job requires that the timeline start with 0, but the animation itself doesn't start until frame 1.

Umm, I think you have it backwards Vampus and those who agree with him.

If you start at 0 and are at frame 120, you have 121 frames total, not 120. You have 1-120 plus frame 0.

So I think what you ment to say was "I start at 1, because that's common sense number system. When you're at frame 120, you know you have 120 frames, not 121."

Just a technical thing.....

Witchy 01-11-2003 05:31 PM

I start at 0 and keyframe the original pose there so I can go back to the standard bind pose easily, then go from 1 for the actual first step or part of the movement.

Vampus 01-11-2003 05:57 PM

:2gunfire:I blame Alias :mingun: Does it render frame 0, or does it render the bit between frame 0 and 1?

cujo 01-11-2003 06:13 PM

I usually start at 1-- but then end up having to go into the negatives sometimes
it doesnt really matter as long as you use the renumber
frames feature in the globals

I'm not sure what you mean by "the bit between 0 and 1"..... There is nothing inbetween 0 and 1. There is no 1/2 frame. You have frame 0 and you have frame 1. If you can go to frame 0 in your timeline, you can render it. If you can't go to frame 0 in your timeline, you can't render it. Note that you can always choose what frames are rendered in the Render Globals window, however, so if you choose to render frames 1-120 even though you have a frame 0, the frame 0 will NOT render.

Understand now?

theaps 01-11-2003 06:46 PM

It depends, if I am working with cloth I start at frame -30 so that the cloth can settle on the model. If I am animating something without cloth I start at frame 20000 and work my way backwards.

ckyuk 01-11-2003 08:54 PM

1, because I’m too lazy to type 0.
