Maya 2011 UI

So I just installed Maya 2011, and I first opened it up, and I noticed it looks almost like 3DS Max (I hate Max), color wise. Everything is now dark grey/black, menu/interface wise. I tryed to change it back to a windows default color (white/light grey), but no lucky.

Any one have any idea how I can change the interface color? Is it even possible? Its really annoying me that everything is so dark...

Eww you just compared maya to max... I think maya looks pimp, max has no contrast

Awesome, thanks halfloaf.

And starjsjswars, yes. I did compare them, but only visually. I for one can not stand Max.

I think it is a shame that they are fiddling with nice colors in the interface ripping stuff out of motionbuilder because they have no idea what to do next, put in the stupid timeline thing because they already made it for disney I believe.
I really couldn't give a (BLIEP) about how the package looks as long the program is solid, just focus on what the customer wants and not what they think we want, I would like PTEX incorporated in Maya for instance, or a renderman license and if the interface is pink I will find a way to live with it......

I hate max too btw, if I have to pick another 3d package it would be XSI:beer:

I completely agree, Mastone. But, for me personally, I like the lighter colors. It makes it easier for me to navigate through the program. If there were an option in the settings/preference menu to change the UI color among different themes, it would save A LOT of headache for people.

And +1 for a Renderman License to be included with Maya. I think that would drive the price up tremendously though. Disney/Pixar is greedy, so they'll want alot of compensation for it.

Some of the stuff from motionbuilder is a great help, it also saves the price of buying MB if you only want to use some parts.

Personally I like the interface redo.

The improvements for fluids and dynamics (look in a thread in this section) are superb, as well as the gamma adjustments.

I used to hate Max, but after using it daily at work, I actually like it now. It's a bit odd to work with, and I find a bit clunky to model with, but there are some really cool features as well. Not to mention it has some awesome renderers, namely Brazil.

By the way, there are other themes for 2011 that the first link didn't mention: http://www.pixelcg.com/blog/?p=680

When I went to ITT Tech (place is a joke, BTW), they used Max. I convinced my professor to let me use Maya instead, on my own laptop. He agree'd, as long as the end results looked the same. I tried using Max, and was completely lost. Maya UI is way easier to navigate than Max's UI.

Lol thats cool.

If I had to choose a difference 3D app it'd definitely would be Houdini :D
