izzy-question - FLASH and MAYA

mate i have a guy asking me if flash works with maya...

im not sure in what context he is asking, but what can you tell me ... being the "flash king and all" :)

adldesigner 13-11-2002 08:22 PM

Actually even though I´m not a flash king at all, (Izzy is) .. I´ll just say that he needs someway to translate the scene information (Cambridge Inkworks anyone?) to vector information. And it won´t export a tweened animation, but a frame by frame animation.

Tell him, it´s quite difficult, and it´s not worth it. :D
(since archives tend to go up in Kbs quite fast when playing with 3d.)

He could actually try to create a 3d engine with Flash´s ActionScript, but I doubt that in this case.

JM2C...

I think there is a Maya to Flash plugin available from A|W...

However Mike, that would be the Shockwave Exporter, and that one is for Director, it could be used to try to get a *swf file out of it, but working with Director seems to be .. welll ... actually a bit monotonous and difficult (in my case anyway). I don´t know how would you do it though. Perhaps there´s a better way?

How about cartoon shading and just a couple of spotscenes and tweening in Flash like suggested?

A workaround also would be to render the scene or animation in Maya, and then in Flash create a movie Clip, Import the frames, and actually Trace those images into vector information. But as I said they get BIG quite easily.

Sorry to say this Kevin, but ADL is right.

At the moment, Swift3D is probably the closest thing that might work with Maya in some small way.
(export models and/or animation to dxf or obj into Swift3D standalone)

The way that I would suggest untill a vector .swf output plug is available for Maya, is to use a toon shader on a movie running no more than 30 fps, then import those frames into Flash, and choose "Trace Bitmap".

Check the Flash docs for the settings.

Sory I couldn't be of more help.

I usually just render my shots, and bring them right into Flash as movieClips, and keep the shots less than 4 seconds long.

I suck when it comes to vectorizing my bitmaps:)

Yeah, I can't wait till theres a direct plug from Maya to Flash.

Then I'll make some good money for once:)
