Animation not working in Blitz3D
Hi, I tried animation for the first time a day or so ago and it didn't work. I set key 1 for the character facing right, and 2 for facing left. But then in Blitz3D only right showed up. I know I'm doing the code right because it works fine when I swap it with someone else's working animated mesh. Is there some trick to saving animation frames with a mesh? I didn't see anything about that in the tutorials. I'm also having to use Mesh Lab to convert from obj to 3ds since Blitz3D can't import objs. Any help would be very much appreciated, I want to animate!

never heard of blitz3D before (is it a game engine?) or MeshLab
BUT it sounds like somewhere in the process you've exported an obj file... obj files only hold the basics, that is... where the verts are in space, what their UV coordinates are, and what verts they are connected to (i think they know what textures they have, but i've never seen this an obj file import with a texture before) once you've saved out an obj you've lost EVERYTHING except those atomic elements objs don't know anything about animation, or weights, or anything that might not be interpreted by another 3D app if blitz3D only reads 3ds files then you'll need to export your animation as a 3ds file. if you need it, there is a piece of free software that's apart of XSI called crosswalk, which converts between maya, xsi, and max (haven't used it for a long time, so in stand alone mode, so i wont be able to offer you anything other than knowing it exists) |
That's awesome, thanks! I never knew that about objs. The exporter you mentioned does exist, but I can't get it til tomorrow. Here it is though for anyone who needs it.
http://www.softimage.com/downloads/C...k/default.aspx Blitz3D, how do I describe it? I've always wanted to make a game but dreaded programming. Then after months of downloading and trying out different engines with the specific criteria of ease of use and game quality, I decided on Blitz3D. http://blitzbasic.com/Products/_index_.php |
Thanks for trying to help, but Crosswalk didn't really work out for me. All I'm really looking for is a simple mel file. Does anyone know of one that exports 3ds files?
