that looks great! very realisitic, especially with the scratches and dirt smudges...you've even got the lines in the metal!

really cool, only thing i would say is the buttons look a bit too shiny for something that's been worn and apparently dropped a few times :p buttons should be more dulled out, and the finish should be scratchy and worn from people ff and rew constantly :)

also - how did you do the brushed metal texture? - I need to make a texture just like that for my shinjuku project.

errethakbe: Thanks, yeah, maybe the buttons could need some more dirt, although I have tweaked the materials and render for so long now that I just have to call this project finished (hence the finished work section ;) )

arran: hehe, yep, it wasn't a fast loader =) Actually I don't own this device nor the c64 itself anymore, so I modelled from various crappy photos. The thought has crossed my mind to model the computer itself.. . we'll see..

The brushed metal is a "standard metal" in Maxwell (so use some standard metal shader in Maya) and a greyscaled bumpmap with just a sliiiiiiight bump. Had to re-render that one a lot of times to get just amount of "brushiness" I wanted.

Metals are about subtle cools and warms, extremely low diffuse, tight tight specularity, high frequency noise like tiny bumps.

ha ha - yep i remember international karate - anyone remember uridium and paradroid? I seem to remember hearing that they were going to make c64 games available on the wii...

very nice work man, i give it 5 stars, i have used maxwell before but the demo version, and i know it takes ages to render, how long did it take you to render that out?

It looked ok after around 5 hours EXCEPT under the plastic lid. That area was noisy as hell, don't understand what's the big problem there, probably has to do with the plastic, refraction etc. So this image rendered for..... drumroll... 9999 minutes (166 hours) haha... new personal record.:attn:

Great work mate! Looks superb. I remember them too.

On a side note, my fave game for the commodore 64 was rampage! also anyone remember that some games that took ages to laod used to have a space invaders game that you coiuld play as it was loading.
