July/Aug - Noob - R@nSiD

Well,

Another great challenge, something to bring out the real artist in the 3D Modeller...

I'll need to think about it and get back to you :P.

OK,

Since this is about lighting and mood and fear and loathing and I am a Senior Support Analyst on a WinTel (Windows/Intel) platform. The thing I loath and fear could be the Blue Screen of Death...

So heres my concept image...

Support back is now in...

Heres a render (using default lighting)

Hey, nice work, it looks like.............................................. ....my desk!! The only thing that looks strange is the wood texture. Try cleaning the black spots.

I see what TR is saying, I do like the wood spots though, I think you should keep almost all of them. You can use the clone stamp tool and transform tools to add a bit of difference in your texture to break up the monotony a bit. Looking good so far mate, and a really cool idea.

Heres the latest update so far...

Task list for the project is:

Create Mouse
Create Desktop
Create Spotlamp
Create Chair
Create Character to sit at the chair
Create all cables and attach to the relevant devices
Create numerous background objects (DVD Cases for games and/or books etc...)
Maybe add a Bookshelf to Desk (depends on timescales)
Get lighting sorted ad test render (about 1000 times)

C&C always welcomed.

P.S. you were both right about the wood texture, was just a bit too knotty. I like it now, what do u lot think?

gohan1842 08-07-2005 06:23 AM

this is looking excellent. just a suggestion. for the final lighting. i would have the lights turned off with just the blue light being the only source of light. i think it would focus more toward the screen.

publicFunction 08-07-2005 07:13 AM

Well...

The plan is the blue light will hit his face but there will also be a desklamp sitting on the desk. I dont think the blue will be enough to light the scene.

The spotlight will be quite low in intensity :)

P.S thanks for all the positive crits and comments everyone.

Original :) I like it...I'm a Systems Admin for a Unix/Win2k environment myself...so I feel the fear and loathing already!

Maybe include something on the desk to indicate a deadline of sorts...and a desk flip calendar to show he its due...just an idea

Taking my Task List right out of order...

I am doing the hardest part (for me anyway), by adding my Character now...

I cant sleep atm and I am wide awake and it's about 3am here.

So here's my bloke getting added to the scene, hes a bit of a mongrel as he is still in both NURBS and Poly's, I'm just converting and stitching him together...

Hope you like it so far

Im having real issues doing organic modelling, so I have borrowed this character as a free download from Turbo Squid (so thx to the artist who created it).

Its the only thing I haven't created... So heres an update...
