making shadow on the ground

Can anyone tell me how to make a shadow appear on the ground. I modeled a dungeon, and I have bars in the windows and I will have a light fog shining through and I want a shadow of the bars on the ground.

Hey there Banksta,

Through the attribute editor, turn on the shadows of the light that is shining through the bars.

Should do the trick,

Mat.

This scene has a spot light outside the room pointing down at the bars, it has fog and shadows turned on....

happymat I tried but it didn't work.

I am trying to light this dungeon as a night scene where it's dark but I can see detail. I was able to do that but I also wanted a light fog going through the window and a shadow of the bars to show on the ground. When I put the light fog through the window and make sure shadows are checked it just gives me a light fog but no shadows of the bars on the ground. Also isn't there a way to change the light fog to a box shape, so I can fit it perfectly through the window.

Hi Banksta,

are the bars modeled or have you used a transparency map?

Mat.

I figured it out happymat thanks. I had a glass window in front of the bars and I guess it effected the shadows. I deleted the glass and they showed up fine. Here is my final render. By the way is there a tut around on how to create transparency maps. By the way let me know what you think. I will do a daytime render next.

Thanks for the help.

Happy days!

Yeah putting glass into a window can do that!!

There's a free tutorial on this site showing how to create and use alpha maps and I made a quick tutorial for someone a while back showing how to use light fog with transparency maps....

Click THIS to watch it.

I'm sure that there are plenty more tutorials out there, I pretty much learnt through trial and error.

nice job by the way, could be a bit glloomier in the corners though. I look forward to seeing the daytime version.

Take it easy,

Mat.
