guitar help please
 

hey all i started playing guitar in december (got one for christmas) and i was wondering if i could get some help on a few things cause i know at least a few people here play...

1. what the crap is a pinch harmonic??? and how do ya do it?

2.at the beginning of THIS SONG when he sweeps the pick across the top three strings does anyone know how he gets the sound as if he's picking each individually???

A pinch harmonic is where you pick a note and you lightly touch the string with your thumb right after picking the note with your picking hand, its bloody hard to describe in words!!

Say you fret the third string on the 5th fret pick it and as you pick with the plec roll your thumb into the string so it lightly touches the string where you picked, it should, with a bit of practice, squeel.

by the looks of the video he's doing a down sweep slowly, I probably would down pick the top and up pick the next two going down.

i can do the sweep but for me it it mushes all the sounds together if you know what i mean... it might just be my amp though so when i get my new one later today ill see if i can put up a video to show what i mean

as for the pinch harmonic... sounds bloody hard looks like its time to practice now...

is there any way to train your pinky finger to stretch farther? mines kinda deformed i broke it a while ago and now its got a weird bend in it so it wont go much further than my ring finger.

Break it again and stretch it???

Its no too difficult to do with parctice, just build up slowly trying to keep a nice even tempo.

i play in a fairly low tuning drop C/drop D(CGCFAD/BF#BEG#C#, not sure for the drop b but i think thats what it is...), and my buddy said i should get some really high gauge strings... what guage would you suggest?

also, im lookin to get a new guitar as mine has gone through hell and back over and over, and now is a complete wreck... but, i only like ibanez guitars so far out of all the ones ive played and im trying to keep under 500$ CAN budget and i dont want to buy one online, i will if i find a good one but i dont want to... anyways the question is would the ibanez rg tremolo be a good one for that budget?(specifically the RG370DX model)

ill go for a daron malakian custom if i can find one under 800$ but thats just cause hes my fav. guitarist:p

has swearing... just watch the beggining if you dont like the band...

I probably would give Ernie ball, Slinky tops, heavy bottoms a go, there a nice balance, think there 10's - 52's so you get the fat low's and sitll have a nice thin string for any solo stuff, if youve got a floating bridge going that low, you might need to fiddel with the bridge and the intonation just to make sure its on.

With low tuning you need to have higer guage strings as lower ones flap about and slap the fretboard.

As for the guitar, I aint a clue, i'm a fender man myself

i hate fenders man

but as for the strings i ended up goin out and getting those exact ones and, they were cheap too ($5.75). and they have a perfect feel for my playing style
