http://www.samui3d.com/gfx/loftmaya2...sky4500800.jpg :p I created these 2 images a few months ago with Maya 2008 Mental Ray Physical Sky/Sun & Mia X Materials, to demonstrate 2 different approach of using the Portal Light in MR. The 3D model of the Loft comes from the Evermotion collections, and was almost completely remodeled by me to optimize it for MR & Maya software. Ciau. Alex Sandri http://www.samui3d.com  |
Hey withego, I haven't seen you around in a while! Your work is still amazing!
What's with the Pooh though? Is that like your trademark? |

Portal light is the new light in Mental Ray, that concentrates the outer Physical Sky enviroment better than before. Here is my Maya MR worklflow with Portals. For the first image I used the Light Card approach. For the second I used the standard Mia_Physical Sky approach. The Portals are 2, one main located behind the window (located behind the camera), and one effect Portal located behind the window on the second floor. In the first image, I connected a Mib Blackbody to the enviroment slot of both Portal Lights. The Mib Blackbody connected to the main Portal, has a colour temperature of 4500K, and the other Mib Blackbody connected to the effect Portal has a colour temperature of 6500K. In the second image, I connected the Mia_Physical Sky to the enviroment slot of both Portal Lights, and I connected the Mib Blackbody to the colour slot of both Portals, with the settings as above. This light study, I hope demontrates how the Portal light used with the Mia_Physical Sky connected to the enviroment slot(second image), concentrates the light of the external 'Enviroment Sky much more than the Light Card approach (first image). I wish i was clear enough in my explanation...! Cheers...! Alex Sandri http://www.samui3d.com |
