creating a book

hello. i have to create a book for a school project where the pages turn one after another, and was wondering what the best way to do this was. any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

What I would do would be to assign a lattice to each page and keyframe it. Thats the only thing I can think of.

heh. You could try simulating pages as really dense cloth....

just kidding. Or mostly. Results at this point would probably not be worth your effort. Actually I've heard of this problem/solution before. Try this:

for each 'leaf', create three nurbs lines, of equal length, seperated along the area of the page (one on the spine, one in the middle, and the other as the outside far edge). select from inside to outside, and hit Surfaces>loft.
Don't delete History!
What this allows you to do is, as long as history is on, you rotate (not translate) the outside and middle lines around the 'spine' line. If the middle line moves at a different rate, the page curves. automatically. forever.

That's a basic way. Okay, sure, there's about a thousand or two other things you can do to get automatic curving at certain degrees, and similar things, but you get the basic idea (I wasn't too bad at explaining, was I?).

If you want to have each side of the page be something different, there's a tutorial buried somewhere in the maya help and info files on 'layered shaders'. Can't remember those details.

I saw a tutorial the other day about converting nurbs or poly surfaces to a network of particles and then using dynamics to animate the surface. The example was an open window blowing a curtain.

It only took a few minutes to create a convincing animation, and I dont think it would be very hard to recreate the process on several pages. I cant give you a step by step as to how to do it, but its something to think about.
