Sea animation

This is a frame of an animation Im making and trying to improve.

I intend to make it as realistic as possible but i have found that is hard with this kind of object floating, it would be easier with a piece of wood because of the way it floats and moves in the water.

It is been cooking now in my laptop and ill post it soon.

If the floating doesn't look too realistic, try ramping up the buoyancy... I would expect an air mattress to sit very high in the water, since it's mostly air :)

Dont know what you mean by ramping the buoyancy, perhaps to use an expresion to change his value on time?

stwert 07-08-2009 01:31 AM

I just mean increase the bouyancy of the object. I'm assuming you set it to be a "boat" or whatever the option is to make it interact with the fluid?

I have set it at almost the highest value but even so it sometimes sink and that is something a light air mattres alone never do. It behaves more like a piece of light wood.

But anyway im making the animation to see the resuts. It will take a few days because after I added transparency to the water , the renders have become very slow.

The picture I have posted is bigger than the size allowed.
Sorry, but I didnt know untill i read the wip rules a few minutes ago.

Still only 102 frames of 500 done. Ill make a 10 seconds animation when i get 240 frames. Very slow.

I have placed wrongly the texture and i didnt know when i started the batch rendering. Is just a planar proyection and here it is what happen. I have to fix it.

Here is the 10 seconds animation that make me think that ill better animate the mattress manually.

Im planning to make an ufo or something raising from the water.

I think manually keying it the best idea,
wouldn't be that hard and since your not using a fluid solver it should give the same result.

taquion 10-08-2009 01:40 PM

Thats what im going to do apart of fixing the texture.

Mayastatic 11-08-2009 10:05 PM

hey, looks very nice!
Is it the scene, from the Visor, or did you do the scene by yourself?
And when yes, how did you got that realistic look!!!???
Amazing look!!! Great...

Thank you.

The water is made with the ocean option in fluids using almost the settings that comes in getting started. Then I modeled the mattress and the problem was to make it look realistic also, and for that i played with the lights a lot until getting something convincing.

Only one light is lighting the water but there are several low intensity directional lights for the mattress to avoid hard shadows. they are using raytrace shadows.

Im sure can be done better but the first picture I posted is the most realistic thing i have done till now and im happy with it.

In fact, the posibility of getting images that you cant distinguish from a photograph is my main motivation when using maya.

Edit: 2 lights for the water, not one, sorry.

I have finished a new 5 seconds animation. 4 days in the laptop in draft settings.

This time animated manually by key framing. Not completelly tuned but i think is much better than the other.
