Preference question

I have noticed in many tutorials for Maya that when creating a NURBS or a polygon such as a circle or square the shape appears as a full object. I am running Maya 2010 and when I select an object the program asks me to click on the grid and drag to the size I what. i am pretty sure that this is some sort of preference setting but I cannot find it. Thanks for any help in advance.

It's called interactive creation, I think it's somewhere in the create menu

Yes it's a checked or unchecked option at the bottom of both the Nurbs and polygon create menus.

Should be destroyed in my opinion.

It was brought in to make 3ds max modelers feel more comfortable with maya. This is the default mode of primitive creation in 3ds max.

It is also the default way primitives are created in Modo and when you have work plane control as you get in both those programs it has advantages. But in Maya with its total lack of work plane control it's just an annoyance and productivity killer. (lol). So most veteran Maya modelers just laugh at it and turn it off and wish they put effort in adding useful features like better axis control, useful work planes, background constraints, fall offs, soft modification that is actually useful, and better artisan tools.
