avi rendering.

where do the avi files go after rendering? where can i set the resolution? any other info on rendering to .avi? are there any other movie formats that maya can render to directly?

It's recommended that you don't render to an avi... for a couple reasons:
1. If something crashes or freezes, you lose it all
2. I think avi's tend to be very large files
3. You have more control when you have the individual images (e.g. you can re-render part of the sequence

So, render out as tiffs or something like that and you can combine them in premier, after effects, quicktime (I think) or any number of programs. I think there's a few free downloadable tools too.

As for options, open up your render globals window (button looks like a clacker board with two circles next to it)

Hope that helps.

thanks for all the info:p
are there any open source and/or free programs that are capable of compiling videos out of tiffs that you know? which would you recommend?

it goes where you told it to go
ie, whereever your images go when they are rendered
if you used the project defaults when you set up your project then it's in the images folder

also, quicktime pro is only something like $24, and it's easy to use :)
but i think free stuff has been mentioned before... i just don't remember what it's called
