keep us posted mate!

Some Guy 25-05-2010 12:48 PM

Hmm, just opened it then and for a 3.0 mb file it looks pretty nifty. Support for custom brushes, lots of options.
Someone whose good at sculpting should give it a try cause im pretty rusty/

Looks cool.

I really like the look of 3D coat, though it aint free!

Joopson 25-05-2010 08:45 PM

Yeah, it is well worth the price of free.
Hell, it is worth at least 100 dollars, really.
But nope, it is free!

It really is almost as good as zbrush, and it is more enjoyable to use, for me. It is eyecandy with good function.

Rhetoric Camel 25-05-2010 09:49 PM

that does look very good. Hope more people that are good at sculpting give this a try and maybe a quick review between this and zBrush.

I played around with it more last night. On my laptop it gets a bit of lag when swapping brushes and stuff but there are a few good things i really like.

Review after playing with it for 10 seconds:

-the right click brush system is quite nice. To change size, strength ext. the right click pop up menu is really easy to use for just fast on the fly changes.

-The other thing that i really like is the object selection. Just by clicking on a shape it turns it into the active object, and by shift+clicking you can select multiple ones.

-another cool thing is a brush that lowers mesh density where you want. Say you sculpt an ear, but want it less dense than the rest of the head, just brush over it.

-The paint mode didn't seem to work for me as of yet and there where some big bits of lag (no crashes).

-It would be nice to have a feature similar to Z-Spheres instead of just piecing together shapes.

-It appears to have Tablet support but i didnt get time to test that.

Apart from that i really need more time to fiddle with it before. Z-Brush is a High end program, so don't expect this to be a real contender BUT with some work (or even in its current state) it is a really good free option compared to the other open source junk I've attempted to try.

Ive downloaded for future learning, thought I would add this from the site:

"Troubleshooting: On some computers it will apparently crash on startup. If that happens to you, try removing all images except 00default.png from the materials folder. I think it's a problem with some JPEG files, so you could experiment and try to find those that work.
More help can be found in the forum

Thanks bullet. I don't have the money to invest in any apps and Sculptris claims to be similar to Zbrush. I'm hoping that by using it, I'll be able to transition to Zbrush later on.

bullet1968 11-08-2011 07:29 AM

If you go into the paint option mate it appears there is a save normals in there...dunno if that helps?

ben hobden 11-08-2011 07:28 PM

Ive heard people say good things about it before. And even some people who say they prefer it to zbrush. Ive never seen or used it though.

Jay 13-08-2011 12:37 PM

Its good considering it works from voxels the same as 3d coat, it adds the detail only where you decide to sculpt, dividing as it goes along, really good, download the free version while you can as I believe Pixologic are readying it to sell.
