Joining poly edges and one other question

1 Attachment(s)
Hi i'm currenty modeling a head and I need to join a newly drawn polygon shape to my existing model how do I go about doing that i've tried using the merge edges tool but it will only let me merge edges that are on one of the two objects not joing two separate model edges... Also when I draw a new polygon shape why do the move/scale/rotate tools centre at the middle of the world rather than the object, I've tried changing them in the atribute editor to fcus on the object but it seems to make no difference.
Thanks in advance for any help

First q: polygons >> combine. That makes them one object and you can merge away to your hearts content (you may want to use merge vertices it's better than merge edges)

Question 2: Modify >> centre pivot or push insert and move it manually and push insert again to finish it.

That should do it

ok, im trying to follow this head building tutorial i've got as far as the pic above but then it say:- Create the first loop at the corner of the mouth. Here, the outer row of polygons is connected is connected to the lower row with a single quad poloygon to create a ring... waz that mean then :-) I can guess its talking about joining the sides of the lips in sections but single quad polygon is that a new shape to join the ends together if so I've tried that and the new shapes edges just vanish.
I'm sure it makes sense and I probably just cant see the forest for the trees but my heads hurting now so I need assistance.

Ta!
