Spiky hair
Hi everyone,
Do anyone know what is the best and fastest way to make spiky hair on a character using polygons? Hair like my character I attached. Thanks. |
Well, here is how I would create spiky hair. It is unlikely the best and fastest, but anyhow, it is a tip =).
I start of creating the character from a box. http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/6...kyhair1bh1.jpg Blocking the shapes out quick http://img263.imageshack.us/img263/6...kyhair4tq3.jpg When you have blocked out the shape of the head, you duplicate the head and move the copy over the original, like the image. http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/4...kyhair5ge1.jpg Then select the lower partof the head and delete the faces http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/6...kyhair6nm5.jpg Select the borderedges and fill the hole with a new face. then push the faces under the hairblock up a bit, so it creates an oval form. http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/4...kyhair7ha4.jpg Select a single vertex where you want the large spike-hair to start, then push "Extrude vertex". the vertex will be extruded, and move the new vertex so that it fits with your character. Then push Extrude vertex again, and further shape the hair. http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/1...kyhair8ue4.jpg And just continue playing around. http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/8...kyhair9nw6.jpg Hope this helps you. :) |
Thanks for the tip. but can that same technique be used for modeling this type of hair?
|
Naah. It is possible, but I would not use the extrude technique on that hair. On this example I would first create a Cone with subdivision axis on 5, and delete the faces under it. Then I would bend the cone downwards (as on the image), duplicate the cone and paste it on the areas where the hair should be. When you have placed the cones and formed them, you combine them and merge the vertices. =)

Thanks again for the technique. but I realized that you use a ring above both models. Is that ring significant?
|
That ring gives you divine powers while modeling a character =) hehe.
To tell you the truth, the ring is simply something I forgot or didn't bother to delete after I made the headband on the first character. And I used the same head on the second char, therefore a ring over that head too. Sepo |
