Help Needed With Uvs.

Hi guys, im pretty new to texturing and Uving in maya, and im getting abit stuck with it, i may just be doing things very wrong, but whats happenings looks abit out of the ordinary.

and heres it when i apply a checkered lambert:

im not sure why around the chest area the squares have become massive expanded, but if somone knows why it would be helpful.

also if anyone knows good tutorials for unwrapping, mapping, and general stuff like placing seems ect please link me :)

also id like to mention in the UV texture editor on the coat, when i move the UVs it dosnt change the placment of checkers

You would fix that in the UV texture editor, but if the UVs aren't affecting the texture placement, check that you don't have an additional UV set, and if so, delete the unnecessary one to get back the default UV set.

thanks stwert, that may be the problem, i went into the uv texture editor, and in the UVsets there are 2 items "uvset1" and "map1" i assume thats what you mean. how would i go about deleting one? sorry but i am completly new to the uv texture editor.

im not even sure what the second set of uvs are. ill upload some pics of both uvsets on the coat just incase.

You can delete a UV set with Polygons > Delete current UV Set. Just save a copy of your scene before you do in case you make a mistake. I'm no pro with UV sets, but there must be a way to get your good set of UVs to be applied to your object so you can delete the default bad UVs. Maybe someone else can chime in here.
