tentacles
could anybody possibly point me in the direction of a good tentacle tutorial or indeed have any advice on constructing a tentacle. had a google but couldn't find anything other than rigging tentacles.
all i really want to be able to do is create a dynamic tentacle similar in style to doc ocs from spider man. thanks in advance chaps. |
Are you just wanting to model one or animate it as well?
|
eventually both i hope but for now really the modelling is a priority.
i have tried extruding but it doesn't really give me what i want. it's for a polygon model of a robot that needs to have dynamic tentacles. i say needs, it's just that i'm not going to be happy unless it's just right, i'm sure you know what i mean. i heard some rumours that you could use the hair tool to create a tentacle that would then be dynamic, thereby looking fantastic and solving the animation problem. something about wrapping the hair around the bones and maya works out the hair width etc... sounds plausible but what do i know seeing as how i'm posting in the newbie section. |
There's something to do with tentacles and using hair to make it move or something on this month's 3D world magazine. I think there are also scene files for each stage on the CD.

Probably the easiest way would be to draw a curve and move a circle to the base of the curve and extrude along the curve.
But if you draw a wiggly line this may look good as a model but might make it harder to rig and animate. |
thanks guys!
tentacles look good using the extrude along curve and i will be purchasing the mag tomorrow. looked it up online and the article is just perfect, talk about timing. i'll hopefully get it finished by the end of march so i'll post it then or probably before in the WIP to get some help. thanks again chaps. |
Definitely do, it'll be good to get some opinions back on it.
