Pumpkin modeling

1 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone,

I was thinking of modeling and texturing this pumpkin but haven't had any luck. Should I use a bump to displace the vertical lines? or should that be part of my modeling? And how should I go about doing that?
Thanks for your help and patience with me as I'm trying to learn.

this would be a good idea for a short challenge! model a pumpkin before Halloween.

...i would model the ridges.
btw, i looked at the other thread you have, its good practice to keep things quads. its just a thought, but it might make your modeling easier.

Yes it would be a great challenge:)

Thanks for the quick answer and the advice:)

Alright here's an update to what's been going on. I think it's looking alright but still needs a lot of work. I'm trying to go for a realistic look. I'm not sure how I can go about that though. I put a bump and color psd on it.
Any suggestions?

Looks great! I think the part where the stalk attaches should be more spread out if you know what I mean. Have it more visible and flattened like your ref image.

Alright! Will do! Thanks for the advice:)
Any tips on realism perhaps?

look at some more references.
just looking at your model and the picture of the pumpkin in your first post i can see that the ridges are not even like they are with your model.

hey, new here at the forums. I saw the reference pic and was like WHOA HE DID A GREAT JOB!!! Then was like oh nvm, its a ref. haha =] But yea, also new to maya, but ok in C4D. Ok this is what I would do k. NURBS sphere, with appropriate isoparms (these isoparms will be the ridges.) Do as much sculpting you can do to match the pumpkin by using your side/top/front views and whatnot. Once you get he pumpkin perfect. Take those isoparms and scale them in, but before you do that you should subdivide it so that your not just scaling the pumpkin down ya know? Make sense?

(Let me know if i'm on the right track guys)

Thanks

Hey, just modeled this pumpkin. Do you see what I mean by scaling down the isoparms, maybe the hulls is what I meant. Like I said, have only been in maya for a couple days. But have worked in C4D. I dont know how to light, texture, or render at ALL so this is all I can give you guys. yea I know im a nub. :p

I DECLARE A PUMPKIN MODELING CONTEST IN WIP SECTION! NO TEXTURES NEEDED, JUST A PUMPKIN. NO RESTRICTIONS!

(Just make something with a pumpkin involved. can be a scene.)

Ends on Halloween night!

Anyone up for it?

pwnisher 29-10-2009 06:33 PM

Joopson: Why don't you create a thread in the Battle Section? 2 day pumpkin battle? Cool...

Joopson 29-10-2009 06:46 PM

No one ever looks in the battle section, this will get more attention, haha
