first real attempt

yay, the n00bie figured things out!, anyways, could anyone give me some tips on how to make this replica of opportunity more realistic? (even though its not finished)

Again. Do not use .bmp. Maya can save out as jpgs, and ALL image processing programs are capable of it too (even MSpaint).
You can attach one file to your message, that will display inline your post. But please, stick to jpgs or pngs. You will most likely recieve better constructive feedback if people can look at your stuff without hassle.

i guess i should RTFM, heh. but the reason i cant display my pics is because im using a free account for my web site it wont let me link my images (i just tried saving it in a different format and it didnt change anything)

if you hit the post reply button on the bottom right of this page it will bring you to a new window. At the bottom of that window you can attatch a image to the simplymaya server, through their hospitality, for free. And the image will be displayed in the thread. You can post 1 image in a reply. If you need to post more than one, you must reply to it again.

looks like your doing good so far. I like the wheels. You can make it more real looking buy eather texture maping it or adding detail with geo. But I'm not familer with what Oppertunity is supposed to look like. Have a Ref pic you could share ?

Kalzenith 01-02-2004 02:33 AM

well this is the best ref image ive been able to find, its what ive been using to work off of

Looks pretty cool. I also like the wheels.
If thats your only ref pic, you'll have to be just a bit more creative yourself, add the things you cannot see on the picture.

heh, sounds like fun, but anyways i have 2 last questions:
1. do you know how to switch camera angles during an animation to record different scenes?
2. whats the best way to rotate a tire at the same rate that the vehicle is moving? (so it doesnt look like its spinning too slow or too fast)

fredriksson 01-02-2004 03:42 AM

1. I've never done this in maya. It could possibly be done, but I would do this in post, render out each sequence and cut it in some compositing program.
2. Set driven keys on the rotation axis and the movement axis. You'd have to do some basic algebra to get the anglevelocity.

thanks, im relatively sure what you ment on the second one, but either way im pretty sure i can do this now, thank you :D
