I know this is a silly ? but how do you zoon in on an object when you are modeling? I know how to hold down alt to move and rotate, but how do you zoom in?

You can hold Alt, and press the middle and left mouse buttons, drag from left to right to zoom in. You can also press 'f' to frame an object in a selected viewport.

If you're using Maya 4.5 or higher, you can also use alt-right mouse button to dolly in and out.

alt + right mousebutton + drag sideways

Check the docs for the basics, it's alot easier than waiting for someone here to answer.

Im using maya 5.0, can any one please tell me how to change the alt+left mouse (rotate view) hotkey to say fx V (show you toggle rotate mode by pressing the V key and the rotate by rotating the mouse) ?

Hi

you might be able to reassign the hotkey in the Hotkey Editor.

Window>Settings/Preferences/Hotkeys...

The tumble controls are set under the Navigation category.

I haven't tried changing it myself though.
