Screwdrivers/HDRI

Here is my first experiment with HDRI. I used a tutorial, so I'm still not 100% how this lighting works, but I think the models themselves and even the lighting turned out quite well.

Note: The second image is blurry because I attempted, and failed, to use depth of field.

Nice, I was just about to get this tutorial and have a go, got submerged in final gather and HDR's but I cant get the results i'm after!!

nice renders :)

I dont think the background colour helps though, maybe something a little less in your face might help.

MattTheMan 10-11-2005 09:14 PM

Omg first one's amazing!

Nusirilo 10-11-2005 09:26 PM

Hehe thanks. The second one didn't work out as well due to reasons mentioned above.

herr_klaus 11-11-2005 08:31 AM

good work
i think the second looks more real because it's imperfect.

t1ck135 11-11-2005 10:24 AM

sharpen in photoshop might bring the detail back out a little on the second picture (though not work perfectly)

Nusirilo 11-11-2005 02:10 PM

Yea, that might work, tick. It's not a huge deal to me right now, though, because basically all I wanted to learn from that experiment was realistic HDRI lighting. It was also cool to make those ridges on the side of the screwdriver though hehe.

Thanks again everyone for your comments.

Hey can you tell me what link it was where you found that HDRI tutorial? I been looking through so many things, and I found so many crappy ways to do HDRI that I am desperate for a good one.
Cheers,

Try googling for hdri screwdriver and voila!

Nusirilo 13-11-2005 06:21 PM

Yea, DJ_Blazer is correct. I got my version from deviant art, but the same version can be found on google and at highend3d.

but where should i and how do i create an ambient light? i check lighting/shading but no luck, only got Make light links and ...

Go to Create>Lights>Ambient light

Btw like the pictures. I also did that tutorial and it really gave me a good start on using hdri.

oh ya

thank you !!
i guess render this pretty screw gonna use lots of time.

if you want realistic lighting you should consider looking into creating a hemispherical light dome(built up of spotlights), it creates a more realistic light simulation, theres a script on highend that creates this setup for you automatically, its called GIJOE and works great with HDRI in mental ray.

screw ambient lights, they light too much at once.
