Screwdrivers/HDRI
Here is my first experiment with HDRI. I used a tutorial, so I'm still not 100% how this lighting works, but I think the models themselves and even the lighting turned out quite well.
Note: The second image is blurry because I attempted, and failed, to use depth of field. http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92...rewdriver2.jpg http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y92...rewdrivers.jpg |
Nice, I was just about to get this tutorial and have a go, got submerged in final gather and HDR's but I cant get the results i'm after!!
|
nice renders :)
I dont think the background colour helps though, maybe something a little less in your face might help. |
Omg first one's amazing!
|
Hehe thanks. The second one didn't work out as well due to reasons mentioned above.
|
good work
i think the second looks more real because it's imperfect. |
sharpen in photoshop might bring the detail back out a little on the second picture (though not work perfectly)
|
Yea, that might work, tick. It's not a huge deal to me right now, though, because basically all I wanted to learn from that experiment was realistic HDRI lighting. It was also cool to make those ridges on the side of the screwdriver though hehe.
Thanks again everyone for your comments. |
Hey can you tell me what link it was where you found that HDRI tutorial? I been looking through so many things, and I found so many crappy ways to do HDRI that I am desperate for a good one.
Cheers, ,Matt :alien: |
Try googling for hdri screwdriver and voila!
|
Yea, DJ_Blazer is correct. I got my version from deviant art, but the same version can be found on google and at highend3d.

Btw like the pictures. I also did that tutorial and it really gave me a good start on using hdri. |
oh ya
thank you !!
i guess render this pretty screw gonna use lots of time. |
if you want realistic lighting you should consider looking into creating a hemispherical light dome(built up of spotlights), it creates a more realistic light simulation, theres a script on highend that creates this setup for you automatically, its called GIJOE and works great with HDRI in mental ray.
screw ambient lights, they light too much at once. |
