HDRI-Export --> which format ?

Hello friends !

I want to export a HDR-Image from the HDR-Shop.
But I don´t know which format I should use for that ?

I´ve tried different formats, but it seems to be that Maya can´t read the image - so the render process will not start.

thx for helping me,
bernhard

Targas

Yeah I would use a targa. I'm curious though because I have never used HDRI in Maya. Is this possible and how would you approach it?

Hi Bernard,

on 3d-Palace they have a Maya HDRI tutorial, in their video tutorial section... -->
http://www.3d-palace.com/modules.ph...utorial&sortby=
(unfortunately it seems not to be downloadable at the moment unless you pay for it)... but the owner of 3D palace says there is some turnaround thing with the tutorials... so they can be downloaded again for free... however I haven't experienced any turnaround the last 3 months... when the tutorial first has got "non free" status it seems to keep it...

the tool that is used is "HDRI2XSI"... and can be downloaded here... -->
http://www.edharriss.com/xsi/tools/tools.htm

a bit info on "HDRI2XSI" can be found in this tutorial... "HDRI (High Dynamic Range Images) in XSI"... -->
http://www.edharriss.com/tutorials/t...inxsi_eng.html

as I recall... there were also a website with an tutorial to maya...
unfortunatey I can't remember were I saw it... I can only remember that it was much alike the videotutorial from 3D-palace...

but you apparently convert the HDRI image to a *.map file... and then in maya you e.g. make a sphere... which you give a surface shader... and to the surface shader you select filetype "MipMap"... and then you add the *.map file to it... you might have to use "best guess" to see the map files...

there is also an tutorial about "Faking HDRI in Maya" here... -->
http://www.3dluvr.com/pixho/tutorial...HDRI_index.htm

hope you can use some of it... :)

regards

Strarup
