applying a simple texture

Hi,
Im currently modelling a bicycle frame mostly with nurbs i’ve completed the frame and applied a very simple red shiny shader, i’ve also created a logo in photoshop which is basically a bit of type that says 'Cannondale' i want to map this on to the frame so i can see the very simple shader behind the logo, i tried to create a channel in photoshop using unused area of the logo but when its imported, i can see the logo but the photoshop channel makes the geometry transparent.

I’ve come to the conclusion making this channel in photoshop is prob the wrong thing to do and it should prob be created in the Hypershade, the problem is even after 3 months learning maya, im still trying to grasp how the hypershade works, figuring out what to link to what is a bit confusing.

any help would be hugely appreciated

thanks

If I understand your problem correctly, you should be using a layered material. The red base material on the bottom and the logo thingie on top of it (with the transparent channel).
