Problem with Fog
1 Attachment(s)
Hi all, I'm having a small problem with a spot light + fog.
My basic setup is a single spotlight directed at a poly plane. I then attach fog to the spotlight. I have also added a single pointlight to this scene just to illuminate the plane slightly... |

here is the resulting render (as expected)

I then added a poly ring to the scene...

again, this rendered as expected...

lastly, i moved this poly ring closer to the spotlight so the ring edge just hit the cone angle of the light...

now we get to my problem. when I render this scene the spotlight passes though the centre of the ring but the fog does not.
I am no lighting expert (far from it), but I really would like to know if its possible for the fog to continue beyond the ring?? |
that's because maya's actual fog isn't really THERE. It's just a cone around the spotlight that shows up like fog. If you block that cone, than no fog.

thnx for the responce matt, I assumed this was the case. the reason I wanted to continue the fog was to achieve the night club spot light effect below. I have made up template shapes that have been placed close to the lights in my scene which show the required shapes on floor but without the fog. have you any ideas on how I may achieve the effect I wanted?
|
Why dont you map the shapes to the colour channel of the light?
Think that would be the best way? |
sounds like a good idea!!
any change you can please offer some guidence on how to do this? |

MhCannon goes through how to do it. Think you will have to change the white colour to the colour of the light you want though. Hope it helps you out |
