Best way to join a straight shape to a bend

Hi. I am doing something that seemed fairly simple. A model of a little boat. I decided to try and do it using curves and lofting them into a poly hull. That worked fine. Now I need to attach a board in the middle of the model på make a seat.

Is there a clever way of doing this to make the straight surface meat the bending shape of the boat seemless?

I tried boolean, but that does not work at all. Both objects disappear. As far as I understand that may be due to some little error in my model. Tried to cleanup but that does not help.

So how do I best join this shape so the board does not penetrate the hull och leave an ugly gap on the inside?

Go into your top orthographic view, select vertices on a corner of your plank, hold v, I think, and snap it in the correct axis to your boat hull. Repeat with the remaining corners. If you still have interpenetration between the plank and boat hull because the side is straight, add some more divisions lengthwise on the plank and tweak.
Hope that helps.

I'm sure the fact that the boat is almost paper thin isn't helping matters. You could probably add an edge loop down the board so you can have more control over the shape. I wouldn't worry about booleans, you could just group them.

Yes, the boat is thin. I am trying to do an accurate copy of the real original and the aluminium hull is 3mm thick. I am a beginner to this so there must be something obvious I have missed cause it can be that hard to match the end of one object to the surface of another, right?

I want my board to stretch between the inner hull on both sides of the boat. The only way I know of doing it at all would be to use split ploy tool on a few faces on the hull and extrude it over to the other side. Do the same thing on that side and try to match the vertices manually and by eye measure make it somewhat straight. But that seems a very clumsy approach.

You could use the insert edge loop to create the shape of the plank on both sides at once, then select both shape the use the bridge tool.............dave

Thank you, will try bridge tool next time.
