Attaching a Gif of Earth to Sphere

Ok,

I am trying to attach a gif/jpeg of Earth to a Sphere and I don't know how to import/attach it. I'm sure there is a very simple way to do this....

Create a material, map your image the the material's color attribute. Apply the material to the sphere.

Jpegs don't necessarily always work, depending on wether or not it's a progressive image. You might consider converting to targa.

Earth

Have a look at my Earth pic in the gallery, I used a tif image for the surface and another sphere for the clouds and another for the glow.
P.S. dont forget your bump!

When trying to

"Create a material, map your image the the material's color attribute. Apply the material to the sphere"

I create the material (BLINN) but I don't see how I "Apply the material to the sphere". Where is this?

I know I have a book that steps me through this, but we are moving and everything is packed.

you can do it a couple ways. Middle mouse click and drag the material to your sphere, or select the sphere and right click on the material and "Assign to Selected."
