Check it out - my jan / feb challenge prize came through today!

Here's a link to the original thread -

It's been a while since I posted anything - I got married and have been dealing with other stuff - but I've still been struggling away at maya whenever I get a chance, so hopefully I'll have something to post soon.

BIG thanks to Mike for such a cool prize and for running the challenges. For those of you haven't entered a challenge yet, get yourself over there and entered into the latest challenge!

Top prize Arran, it looks really cool!

Congratulations on getting married too!

Mat.

edit: what's it made from? Is it fairly sturdy or quite light?

DJbLAZER 27-06-2007 12:19 PM

That is sweet... now do a re-render of your model and try to get it to look exactly like that photo =)

Rhetoric Camel 27-06-2007 03:02 PM

thats awesome, it's gotta be kinda cool having a model that you can hold that you know you created.

mmoore5553 27-06-2007 03:17 PM

wow arron how did i miss that contest entry ...i just went threw the whole thread ..top notch .i love seeing it from beginning to end like that ...impressive ...man and the prize ..that is a sweet prize ....

arran 27-06-2007 03:34 PM

thanks a lot everyone! :D

happymat - not sure exactly what it's made of - it kind of feels like plaster - I had a look on 3D Art to Part's website. Here's the link:

http://www.3darttopart.com/product%20info.php

it's pretty light and feels sturdy, though I wouldn't want to test it - I have it in a glass cabinet well away from my cats!

DJbLAZER - thanks mate!

Rhetoric Camel - yeah - it is kind of strange to hold something created in maya. and cool!

mmoore5553 - waah! kids? not if I have anything to do with it. ;) ha ha - just kidding - thanks mate.

thanks t1ck!

How's your final project coming along?

t1ck135 28-06-2007 07:30 PM

not bad :)
I've storyboarded it and refined the characters but am having to 'science' it up as its an MSc not an MA. As such i'm looking at flocking or 'boids' and how it can be applied to my animation. I've already got a basic version running using fields and particles but I want to get into using MEL or python to write a basic system of my own (with more control). I've also found a couple of already created maya systems if anyone is ever interested ;)

WELL DONE, ARRAN!

Aside from the fine figure modelling, I have to say the render looks like fine china! You certainly earned the prize!

BTW congrats on getting married! (The Mrs. and I just celebrated our fifth anniversary this past June 6th)! All the best to you and your bride! :-)

arran 29-06-2007 05:43 PM

Lt Jim - cheers mate and well done on the 6th anniversary!

Si - glad to hear that you are still going good on your project. looking forward to seeing some updates! must admit as usual it flew a couple of miles over my head, but I did a quick wikisearch on boids and it sounds really interesting. man, i'm pissed I never did any of this stuff in uni! :shakehead
good luck on your project!

Very cool! I'm glad it came out ok. I would definitely like to offer more cool prizes like this one, but since I'm footing the bill, it's pretty expensive. For now, I'm hoping to do it again, next Jan/Feb and have it be a yearly thing or something.
