I've been experimenting with rendering and came across the issue of lighting. I read up on some lighting techniques and found 3 point to work for most situations, and it looked fairly easy so I gave it a go on a quick test subject.

Here are the tutorials I followed:

My trouble is with the back light, which just doens't do what I need. It's either not apparent at all, or way too apparent.

I'm sure it's just a matter of tweaking some settings. I was wondering if anyone has a sample 3 point lighting scene so I can take a look at settings and configurations.

I'm good on the fill and key, but I'm not getting the highlights that seperate the object from the darkness, as you can see.

you can place a plane under your sphere and see if it change stg.you can augment the entensity of the light or change the position of your light. here is how i positionned them.i think the sort of light doesnt really change stg.

Think your going to need to put your sphere on and in something like a big cube, that way you can see the effect of the light's better in relation to the background as at the moment you haven't got one.

I've tried this had the same problem as soon as I put it into a cube it started to look a lot better

That does indeed help a ton. Still can't get the rim light to look "natural" though. I'll play around with it some more.

try to add bump map. just to see if it change stg.
