Swimming textures problem
I have been modelling my little toy aeroplane and I started mapping her yesterday. Everything is fine when I leave it as a low poly model. But when I smooth the model or convert it to sb divs all of the UVS seem to "swim". I read in the maya help that this can be caused by not checking the "Apply before deformers" on the planar project options. BUt this waas checked when I did the mapping so any ideas what's causing it?
cheers guys Alan |
here are the images of smoothed and unsmoothed where you can see the problems

Thanks for the tip... it does just look like it has been spilt with water though :P... thats weird how it would warp that much maybe when you smooth it, make sure you have on "keep hard edges" that may help.
|
where is the keep hard edges option? is that in the smooth options (i would check myself but I'm doing a render at the mo so I am scared to touch my comp!!) ;)

could we see your model pre-smoothing? the answer may be there.
|
yeah the pic above the swimming one is there (that's it presmoothed) or do you mean the actual mb file or wire?
|
wire and/or greyscale view... I'm thinking that perhaps the construction of the object may be causing the distortion.
|
All i know is that whne you poly smooth objects like that, sometimes you get a wavey effect that goes around the object and causes akward geometry.. it looks like that may of happened to this. The keep hard edges option would be in the smooth options :).

Not a bad model m8!

hey thanks rage, this work I'm doing is pretty much the only work I've ever been at all proud of!! :D I'm working on a shot of my little planes taking off from the floor. Check out the thread tomorrow cause I'm gonna let the render do it's thing now and then take it from there tomorrow.

Cool! can't wait!
|
could we see a wire of it smothed now ?

here's the smoothed version

cool.. well after you smoth you can still edit the smothed verstion of the UV map to take out the swiming. its much eazyer than trying to map it after its smothed..
good looking model btw.. |
