New community based idea
 

ok, i have an idea, its rather complicated and i admit i did take it from another site (:rolleyes: ) but its a nice idea :)
and if it does go ahead, it requires a lot of coding, soz dave :)
this should make the place more helpful when it comes to maya problems and turn it more into a community based forum

every member starts off with a certain number of points (these cant be "spent" ill get to this later) but when they post a question about maya, they allocate a number of points to that question (1, 2 or 3) and when someone answers taht question sufficiently (the poster will judge the sufficiency, but if the poster said its not sufficient when it clearly is, they'll have points deducted), the answerer receives the number of points the poster allocated, the points are then added to the answers totals and extracted from the posters. this should stop people from posting lots of questions without doin any readin up themselves and more people would provide help instead of sitting around lookin for answers because the points become helpful to you
when you get a certain number of points, you recieve one VIP point for it, and that can be spent in the VIP section for a video download, so the general idea is, you help, SM helps (via videos) :)
the VIP points must be pretty hard to get as it would be easy for anyone to download videos otherwise

not bad... i have seen this somewhere.... wait.........(after 15 seconds of scratching my head).. astaforum.com, that site sucks if you ask me... but will work great here if you ask me.... pretty much like member rating right? but the laziness would stop people from rating... you know.. but i think it is a great idea..

well i wouldnt really say rating, its more encouraging people to help with something in return for helping

nem what site have you seen this on...ill have a look.

And one other thing... the member would have to already be a VIP member to receive any points, as when they subscribe it is all automated and all the various areas on the board are accesable.

But if they were a VIP member then we can add points easily enough but maybe manualy, as dave would have kittens if I asked him to add this as a feature LOL

Oh and guys...I went to the link that was posted above: astaforum.com ... be carefull, I was attacked by a hundred popups, Not only that but it took over my pc!!

Gave me a nice EXTRA search bar.. add about 40 web pages to my favourites... with folders to... made itself my home start page with pop ups !! added shortcuts all over my desktop!!!

Not only this but the most annoying feature was that it was then my default 404 error page ..so instead of "page not found" I got a nice list of sites accompanied by a fantastic casinos pop up with all the flashing colours to go with!

You can get an uninstal, but it does not remove the 404 page and you have to edit this manually, took me 3 hrs to figure out how to get rid of it!!

My advice... download limewire if your after mp3 and such! Its pop up free and dosnt attack your whole system and if you dont like it you can uninstal
