Haunted House Question
 

I've been working through this tutorial without a problem, however when I atempt to detach part of the nurbs hill I seem to lose the paint effects (trees). It seems like as soon as I alter the original nurbs surface I lose the trees. I've tried everything I can think of, convert the paint effects to polys first, etc. but nothing seems to cure the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
