problem with sound rendering

My rendered video doesn't have sounds. It is totally muted. (maya 2009)

Sound works while i play the animation in its scene file. Its there in playblast output too. But when i render its gone. (i used AVI format)

Things were working fine until a week back. I tried rendering my previous scenes too.. that were rendered back then with proper voices. But No Luck!!

please help me with this issue..

In your preferences, what is your playback speed set to? Set it to real time.

yes, i work using real time(24 fps) setting.. it is playing in the scene but the output has no voice.. is this is a common issue with avi renders?

avi export is always avoided for multiple reasons. One being that it doesn't support many codecs. The other, is if a frame errors, or you cancel it, the whole render is aborted, giving you nothing.

Instead, what you will want to do is use an image sequence instead. Targas, and PNG's are what you'll usually want to work with, as they're lossless, and can contain alpha channel data.

To do this, in your render globals, select your desired output format, set your start and end frames, your frame padding (usually 4)

You will then bring it into a compositing/video editing program like After Effects, or Final cut pro. That is where you will add in the audio.

Sucks I know, but this is the proper way to do it.

hey, thanks for explaining the details.. i didnt know much about the editing potentials of these render formats,. but now i feel frame by frame sequences are more flexible towards the end.
And as i understand there is some codec compatibility issue with my system..
anyhow, thanks again for the insight!! I'll use your advice :)
