quick newb rigging question

i have a character with lots of different pieces, mask, eyes, full body, shirt, pants, shoes, shoe laces, shoe sole, hat etc etc etc

now when i go to put bones in my character for smooth bind, how do i do this, can i just group them all together or do i have to do a poly combine to all of them (i would not like to do this)

im gonna try doing it with the subds and a poly proxy. because i love subd's

anyway, what must i do, and should i cut out the body that is hidden by clothes to make it easier?

hopefully somoene can clear this up for me/

i also have a second quetion. should i texture first, or paint weight?

and since its not good to texture the sub d object, should i texture a high poly version so i get the right look then just apply the same texture to the sub d or what?

texture first to insure texture streching dosn't occur.

to get them all bound to a skeleton, select all the pieces, and then bind them to the root of the skeleton.

As for the subd's, when you convert them back into polys, make sure that it is set to "Control Points", or "Verticies". Now, make a new layer, and call it highRes. Create another called lowRes. Now, bind the low poly to the skeleton, and then the subd to the skeleton. now, put the highRes into the highRes layer, and the low as the same.

Hope this helps

the sub d poly proxy seemed like it was the answer until i found out you cannot put the subd version in a seperate layer as the poly object.

i dont wanna have to paint weight both a high and low res character, just low i think.

ahh this is so confusing.

looks like im gonna be texturing this weekend and have to wait till monday to bother the teach

and should i texture a high poly version or just the low poly?
