rendering

ugh, don't laugh, i'm ridiculously new to maya - but iv rendered an animation with 3ds max before and it was really easy. can you render to quicktime format with maya? --maybe even avi or just something playable in a reg media player? if so, could someone giv me the steps to follow? thanx.

Window>Rendering Editor>Render Globals. That is where all the rendering stuff is. You can change what format it is in here as well as modify the quality and size of your renders. AVI is in there I know, not sure about QT or WMP. From what I've heard, AVI can take up a lot of megs if you don't compress the files.

You can render out as .avi but it's an uncompressed .avi so will be huge. You're best bet is to render out as frames, I prefer .tga, and then use them in Premiere or something along that line to create your movie and it will give you the freedom to use any format and codecs installed on your system :)
