art schools

hi guys i'm new here,

i've been looking around at online courses in 3d modeling and animation. does anyone know if the academy of art college and art institute have good feedback/standing with regard to the courses they're offering? it seems like there are so many courses on offer, it's hard to know which places are the good places. also i've not done an online course before, so any advice much appreciated.

thanks.

The one thing that I can say is save your self a lot of money and buy yourself some good animation books. A lot of Art schools are businesses first. You can get some great training in life drawing at locate art galleries.

Online art courses dont seem that appealing, but then i never done one. You'll probably learn more by downloading Simply Maya's video tutorials, as you see the modelling process.

I would say for learning Animation, buy a book called 'The Animators Survival Kit' by Richard Williams. This book will teach you the traditional animation techniques that can later be applied to 3D animation. If you can, go to a few life drawing clases. If this isn't possable invest in some pencils and skecth books and just observe and draw.

Modelling is really just about practice, but by drawing you'll gain an understanding in the anatomy which would help when constructing humans and animals.

thanks for the advice. i've been going through the tutorials here on simply maya and they are just 'excellent'! i don't think i've come across any other video tutorials that explain in a 'down to earth manner' how to achieve tasks in maya. having looked at the free tutorials, i'm tempted now to pay to look at the other tutorials here.

(that being said i'm struggling with the polygon texturing tutorial that was on mike's own website which i'll post in another area of the forum, for advice if anyone can help).

having thought nore about the online courses, geez, they seem really expensive. i'm not sure i want to spend that amount of money.

there's a lot of info that i've managed to get from simply maya's vid tutorials. thanks mike and everyone for providing them.

:)
