Hi,
I've been doing the tutorial in "The Game Artist's Guide to Maya". Here is the head so far, it's not turned out that close to the one in the book, but what do you think? Oh, and is that a sensible polycount for a head? - littlelostalien |
it is very nice. it is very close to the book, yet it does have a different style in a look it seems. He looks more fierce!
i think you will have tons of fun when you start texturing it. So far up to point you have, i think it looks perfect. |
very nice! Glad to see the book's working for you.

:) Thanks!
@mtmckinley: Yeah, I'm enjoying the book very much! Great job! The texturing chapter is particularly excellent. (I couldn't resist skipping ahead and texturing the sword before I made Silenus!) Here is a little update. Time to start on the body! |

One more update for now - I'm going camping for a week, so poor Silenus will have to stay like this for a while!
|
I'm back from camping now, so here's an update:

I thought it was about time I gave an update...
http://www.randomstuff.org.uk/~laura...ute_wip_12.JPG I'm so happy now that he's all uv mapped, I love texturing :) |
Hi,
Maybe the red is a bit to deep in colour I think if you lighten it up a little it will make it look less like blood and more like creases in the skin where muscles are, maybe try a darker version of the skin tone colour Thats my only comment I am going to try and pick this book up soon, I haven't got round to it yet Rob |
I agree that the red is too saturated. Also, don't forget to add some (subtle) cool colors in there for some variety in the skin tone.
Texture painting takes a ton of practice, and I commend you on furthering your skills! |

I agree with Mike, the color is too saturated. Texturing is an art form by itself but you seem to be managing pretty good. You can only get better. I havent done any low poly characters like this really myself I tend to do medium to hi res, but in a way the same texturing principles apply.Look forward to the rest Regards _J |
Thanks for the feedback, I agree. I think I took "don't be too subtle" too far! And I was kinda forgetting that satyrs are half human!
How is this? Have I gone too far the other way? http://www.randomstuff.org.uk/~laura...ute_wip_13.JPG |
Definitely looks better.
You might want to try softening your edges so you get a bit more organic look. Edit Polygons > Normals > Soften/Harden Edges. |
Thanks Mike, he looks much better now :) And his face looks less like a devil's.
