games and modding

hey everyone,
i am looking ot get more involved in the gaming side of things, modelling for games and stuff like that, but i have no idea what all is out there for my picking, as far as resource / community / forum type things. i figure what better way to get into it than modding and stuff like that, or finding open source gaming engines or something along those lines, but i just don't know what's out there. anyone got any good clues or cool games to mod that i can check out? i'm pretty out of it in the modding scene as i'm broke and can't afford to buy games, but i'm hoping to pick up a couple soon and try to mod them or something.

thanks

so if I understand you, you are looking for a mod team, right? Well, check this thread out:
link
This guys need modeler and coder. So, check it out and see with the author of that thread about it. Send him PM or something. I don't know which file type they need (probably lightwave), but you can convert model types with Deep exploration, so it's not a problem.

No probs, man!
Well,SS is about 20$, if not less, so it's pretty cheep. It's has a a bit outdated engine, but it's still a great one. if you have any questions about SS or it's engine, go visit :
http://www.seriouszone.com
you have forum at that site, as you have notice, so post there if you need infos.
oh, just so you know, the Serious Sam 2 game is coming out in Q2 2004 with complytely new engine, so that could be one of the best engines to work with.

sil: i remember when ss came out and i remember thinking it looked pretty okay. i played the demo...the game is alright, but it looks really versatile and easily modded, even if the engine is outdated (i gotta start somewhere, eh?). i'm looking forward to messing around with it.

r-tillery: that mod looks pretty neat, but i don't really know 'how to model for gaming' yet. i'm just diving into this whole thing, so i don't know anything about efficient modelling with tri's and keeping counts low and all that. i'm afraid i might not be a good choice to be the only modeler for the project since i've got 0 experience...
