Maya 2010
i'm surprised there isn't a thread on this yet...
http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet...12&id=13583239 new matchmoving and compositing... interesting. so is it just Toxik and MatchMover built in? |
Yes and Yes
If you llook to the upper left of the comping screen shot you can see it says toxik. Im real glad theyve decided to put 2 versions of Maya to 'bed' its such a pain in the arse. Its now got the 'Max effect' and is now more accessible for us freelancers to afford and gives us more of a range to use the cloth and hair etc without being tempted to download hooky stuff. Its all thumbs up from me anyway!! J |
Looks good, though I reckon they should have added more to the nucleus engine ahead of adding the comping/matchmoving stuff.

got my fingers crossed and all to see this new version!! :attn: I'm still waiting for the download link to be made available.................. can't wait...

I really hope they will do something about Laying out uv's, i just started to lay out uv's for the villain challenge and i absolutely hate it:headbang:
I actually saw something on a blog on the area about a technology Pixar/Disney used and it looked very groundbreaking no more laying out uv's:attn: |
It's basically 2009 re-packaged with Toxic and Matchmover. Maya itself, aside from some small bug fixes, is exactly the same as 2009 unlimited. As Jay mentioned, the folks benefiting the most from this are the freelancers who get a nice suite of software, as well as the dynamics that were previously only available to folks using Unlimited. For any noticeable updates/changes, you'll have to wait until 2011, unless ADSK decides to release an enhanced service pack to 2010.

I personally don't mind that they will come with new stuff next year, it only means they are working on something big or doing extensive work on existing stuff
|
The buzz is they've been working with Qt for redeveloping the interface. Don't hold me to that though...some folks were talking about it on cgtalk.

ya, maya need a interface change... there are too much of space being wasted (although i usu work at full screen mode, with nothing visible- MAYA navigation is really superb!! :attn:  :attn: ).
i agree with MAYA not having anything new this time except for Matchmoving and Compositing and also rendering(mental ray nodes addition) ... i haven't got chance to lay my hands on it but till date, nothing exceptional changes/updates has been stated... but still i hope there are hidden changes/updates that will make it worthwhile........ |
I just have downloaded Maya 2010 from subscriptioncenter.
Played around with Toxic a bit which is a lot of fun. I prefer Fusion though :) Maya itself hasn't changed as far as i can tell thusfar they gave the shortcut a gresih tint instead of the red. The only thing i really don't like is the fact they changed the way licensing works. Normally you would have a textfile which you could easily move/back up when you reinstalled you could put it back and everything worked again now they have utilized the max licensing method (with requestcodes and activationcodes), i am really starting to hate that company why do they keep changing stuff that worked just fine in the first place i really hope Autodesk falls apart somehow and needs to sell XSI and MAYA again. Or maybe employees can buy it away from them rant over :) |
Is it up yet?
Not checked, was waiting for the mail. I'll probably wait till we get sent the disks before I have a look though tbh. |
ya, 2010 is out- infact i've got it in my hand right now!! :attn: :attn: :attn: :attn: :attn: :attn: :attn: can't wait to get home.....
i do agree with mastone on licensing procedure. the original one was the best .... |
