rock monster WIP

hello all! :D

well since i couldn't really animate my first character, i decided to stop at texturing him and model a new character based on the things that i learned from modelling my previous character (also on this WIP board). this is going to be my second complete character, and, since i don't have a name for him yet, i just like to call him the rock monster :D.

attempted texturing the guy using bump maps. my main problem here is that the textures left side (viewer's left side) of the body don't seem to properly mirror the right side(viewer's right side). they seem misaligned. i don't if it's just me, but actually, the texture on the left side seems to be an upside version of the other.. not sure though. anyway, see my next post after this one for a close up of the problem.

what i did was to texture half of the whole body, then duplicate it with a -1 scale. not sure what else to do though. :D

I think you'd have better results if the texture was created more for the shape of your monster rather than just putting a tiling brick texture on him.

hmm what do u mean? so far i've only tried UV texturing a bit, but i'm kinda lost on how to create a texture for a *specific* shape. u mean i create texture patterns using the UV snapshot? :)

Well, for example, you could create a texture with the brick flow of the creature kinda flowing along musculature groups to give him more shape... Maybe have dirt and debris on certain parts of him. That kind of thing.

hmm good idea... never thought of that. i'll try to put something together. :D thanks for the tip!

this is only my opinon, but try taking chips or little bits out of it's arms, try not to make him perfectly simetrical

fixing textures from scratch.. this is just for the front of the body at this point. i tried experimenting in photoshop using the UV snapshot as a reference, and i made this texture to give emphasis on the muscles a bit more, esp. the chest area, which could hardly be seen using the original texture. :)
