Which tablet?

I do alot of stuff in photoshop, just started maya and have decided to get a tablet for under £50

Any ideas which? The cheaper the better!

At the moment i'm looking at a Trust Wireless Tablet 400 or a Wacom Volito

I have a coup wacom graphire (i think that is what it is) it was less than $100 us when I got it a few years ago. It works well, the surface is small but you can get satisfactory results with it.

I also have a larger wacom that was around $400 US that I use primarily, I love it.

good luck

Search both the SM and the SPS members lounge and you'll find loads of threads asking the same question. See what they have to say.

not sure if you will get a decent one for £50 or less, I would rather save up and spend a bit more.

I'm not realy a power user and I'm stingy as hell I think I'll go for the wacom volito. I'd love a more expensive one but being unemployed has it drawbacks. :p

I've never used a tablet. Exacually how do they work? Does the screen appear on the board, of just the pointer on the screen.

Pointer on the screen.

You just hover the pen around 5mm above the tablet to move the pointer and tap it to click.

I've never actually taken one apart to find out but i guess around the tablet are lots of small coils that generate a small electromagnetic field around it. On wacoms this allows the pen to draw a small current to power it and also lets the tablet work out where the pen is. You click when you compress the pen nib.

My Wacom Graphire 3 arrived this morning. I installed it a couple of hours ago and am having a great time with it... although it's going to take a little while to get the hang of it's sensitivity. This one cost me 90Euros and is A6 (4x5).

I ordered a Volito from dabs.com and also found a great 128MB MP3 player for £50!!! So got that too!!!!

I recently got the Volito. Suits me fine, and works flawlessly. Too small for some, but it's no disadvantage for me. Good luck with yours.
