Low Poly Characters Texture

Hey , im making models for a long time now in maya
But i never texture them because i dont know how to create UV Maps . i want to texture some low poly model that ive done of Crash Bandicoot but i dont know even how to start the UV map
Any1 got some tips on how i should start ?
