I've started this Donkey Kong Arcade Cabinet from 1981 this week, and now the modeling is finished.
Most of the texturing and materials are done. I'll post some new renders hopefully tomorrow. |

Wow, you're modeling something big now! I can't wait to see how it looks when you're done, your video game projects are always top notch.
 |
nice, nice...
dude have you ever thought of like making a whole house and rendering it out in maxwell for like a 2 min movie? exactly house long would that take being that your renders are the same as the living room? |
It really depends on how complex materials and how the lighting is set up how long the redners take - and how good quality you want, and the resolution aswell.
Lets say you can get a decent render in one hour per average: 1 hour x 24 frames x 120 sec = 2880 hours = 120 days = 4 months.... haha On the other hand... of you can render a frame in 5 mins: 5 min x 24 frames x 120 sec = 14400 mins = 240 mins = 4 hours. However 5 mins isn't a very good looking image... |
lol wow 4 months for 2 good quaitly minutes.
thanks. |
this should be interesting...:)
|
Cool!
You gonna make it beaten up or look like new? |
starjsjswars: minutes.. not seconds.
It will probably be in good condition. Some scratches etc. but not very much. |
yea yea my bad
|
hey, can you show the lighting setup?
i love how that render looks! |
Not bad, can't wait to see in full render.
The only thing that I noticed right away is the buttons. It seems wrong in some way. Then I realized that the buttons are "tall". It should look shorter, or just almost flushed to the "ring". I found an example of what I'm talking about. Buttons up close Good luck! |
Yeah I know the button was a bit tall, I've made them lower already. However they are not as low on my ref pics (on donkey kong) as on your photo.
joopson, I'll post a pic of the studio setup when I get home from work. |
Really like this one mate! nice render...if your gonna make a beaten up arcade machine-try the street fighter 2 machine that was abused by mindless chavs when it first came out.
Nice work mate-keep up the good work! |

Here's the lighting setup. I've changed it slightly though. But basically a blue light above, a white light from the left and a white light almost from the front, but a bit to the right.
