Mudbox

Hey Guys

Just wondering if anyone can tell me what mudbox is used for in contrast to Maya. Basically looking to try and learn new programs that will help improve my model's and animations in the future and have seen that quite a lot of companies like a background in mudbox. Any info would be grand !! :)

Mudbox is basically Autodesk's answer to Pixologic's Zbrush, its a sculpting program, some might say its not as robust as Zbrush though.

As GecT mentioned its a sculpting package. I personally much prefer it to zBrush as it is a fully 3D way of sculpting high detail 3D models as oppsed to zBrush's '2.5D' approach.

It doesn't have all the features of zBrush as of yet, but it is certainly catching up each version tha comes out.

It is also far easier to pick up as it feels like a more general 3D package like Maya or Max.

Cool Cool

Thanks for the replies guys. This may sound super stupid but I have only been playing around with 3D stuff for about 4 months now.

By scuplting program do you mean it designed for importing low polygon models from maya into mudbox and that is where you do the detailing??

And if so is mudbox a much easier way of detaling, say as opposed to detaling the entire model in maya? And finally do you guys recommend learning it ??

Wow feels like and interview doesn't it :)
